Combine a Structural Sketch with Values to Draw a Tree
Sketch the Structure
Using simple linework, sketch the structure of the subject with basic shapes that make up the form.
Sketch the Values
Look for the regions of lights and darks. You may want to use a value scale. Using a graphite pencil, begin shading the regions, leaving the lightest regions as the white of the paper.
Complete the Drawing
Continue to add the values of the subject, using the structural sketch as a guide for their placement to complete the drawing.
Consider doing this exercise with colored pencils. Have fun and keep up the good work!
